For our English-speaking friends: This lovely antique Ansonia iron clock, has been made in June 1882. This is an exceptionally beautiful example with gold scrollwork and dial. It has a lovely black marbleized accents and hand painted gold scroll work. A bell rings on the hour as well as half hour. Perfect condition. 10"5/8 tall, 11"3/8 width, 4"3/4 deep. In the late 1800s, nearly every American clock company offered its customers a less expensive alternative to expensive black stone ( Onyx, Marble, Slate, Granite, Etc...) clocks, which were very popular at the time. Some of these substitutes were enameled iron, others were ebonized wood. The Ansonia "Iron" clocks are highly collectible and their value is rising to reflect this. Rugged, high quality iron steel cases combined with high quality clock works assures that this clock is a wonderful investment, sure to continue to appreciate in value.
