Petite jardinière en faïence de Meillonas, décorée par le surprenant peintre suisse Protais Pidoux, sur pâte fine cuite à petit feu entre 1763 et 1766. Pidoux est né dans le canton de Fribourg où il a travaillé dans la fabrique de Viradens, en 1759 à Mennecey, puis en Aprey en 1760. Il devient maître peintre de la fabrique Jacques Lallemant et exerce jusqu'en 1763. En 1766, il quitte Meillonas pour Mâcon et en 1769, il part travailler à Nevers. Elle est en très bel état, signée sur son fond de la marque de la manufacture AR entrelacés, surmontée de Pidoux à Meillonas. Largeur avec anses 12 cm, profondeur 8 cm, hauteur 9 cm.

For our English-speaking friends: This small jardinière in french majolica has been made by the famous Protais Pidoux artist at AR manufacture in Meillonas around 1763-1766. The hand painting pattern show flowers with great color like Nevers decor. 3"1/2 tall, 4"3/4 width with handles, 3"1/4 deep. Perfect condition, it's signed on the bottom with AR for the manufacture and Pidoux Meillonas. Protais Pidoux born in 1759 at Fribourg Switzerland, he works in Viradens manufacture, in 1759 at Mennecey and in 1760 at Aprey. He became Maestro in the Jacques Lallemant studio until 1763. In 1766, he leave Meillonas for Mâcon and in 1769, he leave for Nevers.
